Woodlands Park Primary School

PE

Physical Education at Woodlands Park is a key contributor to the development of the whole child. Children have two P.E. lessons per week and experience a diverse programme of activities. Starting from Early Years we focus on fundamental movement skills (agility, balance and co-ordination). The curriculum covers areas such as gym, dance, tennis and multi skills.

As well as curriculum P.E. we offer an extensive extra-curricular programme using specialisms of staff and external providers. Recently we have introduced new activities such as badminton, volleyball, cricket and tennis.

The school participates in the Arena events and competitions on a regular basis. In recent years we have had particular success in: Year 6 girls swimming, the team have qualified for the English Schools National Finals in Sheffield. Year 6 girls cross-country team were Devon School Champions. Year 5/6 boys and year 3/4 girls won the cross-country Devon School Plate final. Year 5/6 mixed rugby team were winners of The Ivybridge Learning Community. Year 4 tennis team, winners of Ivybridge Learning Community and qualified for the Summer School Games.

The children also competed at football, athletics, netball, rounders and cricket events.

Entering events offers our high attaining pupils the opportunity to develop their skills further. Additionally, we attend events to increase participation through our inclusive ethos.

We do lots to keep active in school but remember to be active as much as possible - it is recommended that all children should be active for 60 minutes every day. See how you can achieve this using the Active 60 infographic below. Grown-ups, don't forget to look after yourself too - the benefits of being active are amazing.  Sit less, move more!
