Woodlands Park Primary School

Football Runners Up

Played with grit and determination

On Tuesday 9th October, eight of our year 3/4 boys took on the challenge of the regional football competition, which was held at ICC. There was some tough competition in pool 2, but after some real grit and determination, as well as some quite spectacular goals, the boys came clear of their pool having won all 4 games. On top of this, they managed to clear their pool without conceding a single goal!

This meant we were progressing to the finals, with some even tougher competition. We were going to face Stowford! However, the team were not fazed, and they aspired to win through some excellent teamwork and individual motivation. Stowford managed to squeeze the first goal through a tight defence, but Woodlands pupils don’t give up that easily! We fought back and drew level with a lovely team goal. All on the touch line were biting their nails as the referee called 2 minutes extra time… A great attacking move by Woodlands left the back a little vulnerable and the Stowford team surged into the space in a brilliant counter attack move. In the end, the final whistle blew with Stowford 2, Woodlands Park 1.

The boys took the loss brilliantly, showing excellent sportsmanship and posing for photos with the other team. A brilliant game and such fantastic representation for Woodlands Park Primary School. Watch out next year, we’ll be back!
